Corrugated Flute Types A, B, C & E

Flute is the wavy medium inside corrugated board. Different flute heights change cushioning, stacking feel, and how cleanly a carton prints — pick flute for shipping reality, not catalogue jargon.

Quick flute map

• A flute — taller flutes, more cushion, thicker board
• B flute — common shipping flute; good puncture resistance
• C flute — balance of cushion and stacking; widely used
• E flute — thin board; nicer print surface; less cushion alone

Double-wall combinations

5-ply cartons often combine two flute profiles (for example BC). That adds stiffness for warehouse stacking and interstate courier abuse. Use them when product weight or stacking height outgrows a single-wall 3-ply carton.

Practical choice for marketplace sellers

1. Start with stocked B/C style shipping cartons for most parcels.
2. Move fragile or heavy SKUs to stronger ply/flute combinations.
3. Use thinner E-flute style packs only when crush risk is low and space matters.
4. Validate with a packed drop test on your worst courier route.
